# Absence Patterns

Absence patterns were introduced in version 4 of TeamCal Neo. They come in handy when you want to apply a recurring weekly absence sequence to the month you are editing.

## Creating and editing an absence pattern

An absence pattern requires a name and an optional description. You can then chose one of the existing absence types for each day of the week.

## Applying an absence pattern

When editing your absences for a month (user calendar or group calendar), you can select an absence pattern by clicking the `Pattern` button.

If there are holidays in the edited month that do not count as business days, you can select to have the pattern skip those days. For example, in the above case, if there is such a Holiday on a Monday, the absence "Day Off" will not be entered for that day.

After saving your selected pattern, the absences will be saved to the month you are editing.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://lewe.gitbook.io/teamcal-neo/administration/absence-patterns.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
